About

Hey, I'm Tom. I'm working towards being a theatrical theorist. I write a bit, think a bit, sing a lot when I'm high. Hopefully you'll like something on here...

communismkills:

Former Soviet Union citizen confronts Occupy Wall Street.

I’m pretty humbled that Glenn Beck uploaded this video to his website and titled the page “Communism Kills”.

This is difficult to approach emotionally. I don’t really want to belittle the suffering of people who lived in the USSR. God knows it was tremendous, and there aren’t many who want the policies or results that the Russians achieved repeated.

Intellectually, this is disgraceful.
The first indication of a sufferer of rationalisation is in the tone of voice and speech patterns of the man holding the camera. He is highly sarcastic and does not allow the people he addresses much time at all to respond. Not a symptom of rationalisation necessarily, but allow me to comment that it isn’t really a surprise that he refuses to have an actual discussion.

The second is his psychosis, which we see when he equates ‘Socialism’ with the policies enacted by the USSR. He is, in short, talking about something entirely different to Socialist ideology.

Most people I have met who lived in the USSR at any point of it’s existence will discuss Socialist ideas in this manner. They are unable to distinguish between the term and it’s meaning. Outside of actually witnessing the awful ramifications of Fascism in action, there seems to be enough well-designed propaganda, from both the USSR and the US, to have distorted the terminology of Marxism for the West.

The most awkward case of this is Ayn Rand, who swung so far towards libertarian capitalism she ended up making out with Margaret Thatcher. This is how Satan was born.
